Kids under the age of three don’t ‘get’ magic. They just accept it as something that can be done. Between the ages of 3 and 5 they start to realise the boundaries of reality and that is when magic tricks first appeal to them.
A simple magic trick to show to younger children.
Here is a basic trick that is easy for any adult to perform but leaves the little ones dumbfounded. It is the form of a rhyme. The only preparation you need is to learn the rhyme and stick two small pieces of tissue paper to the nails of your index fingers. These tissues can be stuck with a little spit and represent two birds. Now bounce your fingers up and down in rythmn on the edge of the table, saying the rhyme.
“Two little dickybirds sitting on a wall
One named Peter, One named Paul
Fly away peter, fly away paul
Come back peter, Come back Paul”
As you say the rhyme bounce your index fingers in the same spot. On the line ‘Fly away Peter’ swap your index for your second finger, but still come down on exactly the same spot. On the next line do the same thing with the other hand and on the subsequent lines swap back to the index fingers. The effect to the kids watching is that the birds dissapear and then magically reappear.
Traditionally the tree and decorations should be left up until 12th night (6th Jan) and then taken down. However this tradition also states that decorations only go up on Christmas Eve (24th Dec) but may people decorate far earlier than that. The big problem is that a real tree will start to shed its needles and if it has been indoors since early december it is likely to be a bare twig by 12th night.
Firstly, do you really need a flu shot? The following groups are advised to take a preventative flu vaccine:
- Pregnant women
- Older people (60+)
- People with diabetes, heart disease and some other conditions
- Medical Staff and health care workers
The influenza season usually peaks in January orFebruary in the northern hemisphere, so sometime between September and late November is best.
Firstly consider whether someone really would be bugging your office. Is there information that a rival could use to their advantage? Are you being paranoid? Does it matter if you are being bugged?
Sadly, the old days of hearing buzzes and crackles on a phone line is no longer a good indicator of industrial espionage. Audio and video bugs are so small that only experts can find them in most cases. These bugs cost practically nothing and transmit what they record via mobile phone technology so the people who set a bug can listen in from anywhere in the world.
If you are concerned, go to a telephone that is outside the area of concern and call experts in bug sweeping to tell them about your concerns. They are trained in surveillance countermeasures and will be happy to help you resolve the problem.
When you boil an egg, the invisible airtight membrane gets destroyed and air starts getting through the pores in the shell. This means that once an egg has been boiled it should be treated like cooked meat. Eat the boiled egg immediately or within 24 hours as long as it is kept refridgerated.
Good quality chocolate eggs will keep for a year if stored correctly, so if you have a larder that says relatively cool and stable all year round, the best time to buy an easter egg is the day after easter when prices get slashed. Up to 75% off is a common post easter discount and many stores are happy to haggle.
Poor quality eggs contain lots of vegetable oil which will go stale in 6 months, so make sure you buy high quality eggs with a high cocoa content. Also, be careful of added ingredients which you know have a short shelf life.
Then next year you can give top quality chocolate eggs to friends. Of course, it might be difficult for you or your family to avoid the temptation in the larder for a whole year.
When should you feed your pets?
Well it depends on the pet.
Rabbits need to have an unlimited supply of hay, so they can eat when they want. If you feed your rabbit with pellets, they need 1/4 to 1/2 cup of pellets per day for every 6 pounds of body weight.
We feed out cat twice a day. In the morning she gets half a sachet of wet food and half a cup of dry, with the same in the evening. She was getting two wet pouches (and less dry food) till our vet suggested we cut that down the wet to avoid problems with plaque build up on her teeth. She suppliments her diet with bird food, toast crumbs and the residue in bowls of porridge.
Dogs should also be fed twice a day.
Dogs vary in size so be shure to feed an apropriate ammount.
Goldfish are easily overfed. Dont provide more food than the fish will consume in 2 minutes.
Most vets agree that neutering should be performed when a cat is between four and six months old. Do not let your cat become a parent unless you can cope with the litters.
Since the whole point of neutering a dog is to prevent puppies, the answer is to neuter them before they reach an age where they can reproduce. For most dogs, both male and female, this is around six months, so you should neuter your dog at the age of about five months. There are considerable health benefits to female dogs and both males and females are generally less of a handful without those hormones wooshing about.
Different tires wear at different rates, so rotating your tyres around the car to equalise tread wear is a great way to prolong the life of the tyres and so save you money. You should check with the car manufacturer to see if they give any guidance on tyre rotation.
In general, if you swap the front and rear tyres every 5,000 miles you will get the maximum life out of your tyres.
